Jerry Hughes, USA, 1973, 29’, E (without subtitles)
Reminiscent of an art action and directed against the stale dreariness of established art schools, the conversational-format film was produced in 1973 by Taylor Hackford, the husband of the actress Helen Mirren, for the Los Angeles-based public television broadcaster KCET. Allan Kaprow, the founding father of the Happening, lets John Baldessari, an early representative of Media Art and Conceptual Art, show him experimental videos in his live-in studio. A fascinating and delightfully trashy document of the times.
