Julien Devaux, France, 2008, 56’, SP/E/F (with German subtitles)
Filmmaker Julien Devaux follows the Belgian-born artist Francis Alÿs, a resident of Mexico City for many years, on his walks through this megacity, which are themselves performances filled with sly, discrete humour. With such visualisations of the creative process, Devaux produces a touching portrait of an artist constantly in motion. The work Bolero (Shoe Shine Blues), 1996–2007, which can be seen in the exhibition FUTURE PRESENT, comes up repeatedly in the film like a refrain, giving it its rhythm.
