Mark Stokes, UK, 1994, 55’, E (without subtitles)
Cindy Sherman – known for her photographic images of mostly female characters for which she herself poses as the subject – filmed herself and her studio with a Hi-8 video camera for this film produced over two decades ago. It should thus be seen as a self-portrait and, along these lines, a work bordering on an artist movie. With great candour, the artist provides insights into her arsenal of inspirational sources, discussing her motifs, the problems of the 1980s – but always keeping everything firmly under control.
