A familiar figure in Basel, the artist Jean Tinguely is presented in this film in all his many facets – as a creator, anarchist, provocateur, charmer and humourist. In this classically solid documentary, the Zurich director Thomas Thümena attempts trace key biographical aspects from throughout the life of the artist, who was devoted to the movement of machines while himself being incessantly in motion. Tinguely’s ingenious ability to transform junk into poetry comes across with great clarity. Amusing anecdotes from friends and collaborators of Tinguely give the film additional entertainment value.
