From September 2015 to January 2016 Schaulager presents a film programme to accompany the exhibtion FUTURE PRESENT, featuring portraits of artists represented in the collection of the Emanuel Hoffmann Foundation and in the exhibition. Encompassing artistic positions from the early twentieth century to the present, the wide selection of films opens by focusing on Cubism with treatments of Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque. Further programme sections are devoted to Swiss artists (Alberto Giacometti, Peter Fischli and David Weiss, Miriam Cahn), contemporary British artists (Tacita Dean, Jane & Louise Wilson, Mark Wallinger) and the Surrealists, along with singular artists like Joseph Beuys or Dieter Roth.
The films shown all make important contributions to the understanding of the portrayed artists, from classics such as the Giacometti films in the 1960s to in-depth television documentaries, up to productions conceived for the Internet in response to contemporary modes of reception. The film programme also provides an opportunity to trace the development of the often undervalued genre of audiovisual artist portraits over the course of a half-century.
The film programme takes place on Sunday afternoons and is included in the entrance ticket for the exhibition.
